Crown Casino Capital City Trail Melbourne

Rowdy St Patricks Day reveller is ejected from the Crown Casino at the start of the Capital City Trail Melbourne

Just got back from Melbourne recently after spending two days riding one of the major bike trails there. The Capital City Trail. The official distance is 39km, but after taking a few wrong paths I’m sure I rode more like 50kms. But don’t worry about taking those wrong forks in the trail as my review will show you exactly where to go. In a nice way of course.

The Capital City Trail also displayed some “Underbelly” action from day one.

As soon as I arrived at the Southbank end of the trail, about a dozen burly Crown Casino security guards in black suits were ejecting a very angry Irishman. Then further up Southbank under the bridge was flashing police lights and heaps of people watching a local film production being shot. And who would happen to be one of the actors dressed up as a Victorian cop? Underbelly’s start cop Roger Crosser. Shame I didn’t get a decent pic of him. But got some good shots of the outdoor television shoot.

But I had to ride on as it was already after midday and I had still nearly 39kms to go on this long meandering bike trail.

A group of riders and myself (from Cairns) are coming to Melbourne later this year and would like to do the City trail. Can you suggest somewhere decent that hires bikes that could be useful to contact?

I agree with you there. Providing the other cyclists you ask know the trail too. One mother helped me get back on the Capital City trail when I took a wrong turn over the Yarra just before heading north to Heidelberg Road.

Somehow I managed to make a 39km ride into a 50km one. Never mind. Now this site is back online on the new server I’ll get those reviews and maps posted. And let you know which side of the Yarra the Capital City Trail runs.

Once you know your way around the Capital City Trail it’s a great ride. I’m a local and find it really peaceful. Fellow cyclists are a good source of help along the way.
